Sumner, Bonney Lake high schools keep state sports classification, leagues

Every four years, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association works with Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction data submitted by school districts to determine school classification, which is based on the average enrollment in grades 9 through 11.

Here are the classifications and league alignments for SBLSD’s two high schools for 2020-24:

  • Bonney Lake High School: Remains a member of the 3A Pierce County League. Other high schools in the league include Lakes, Spanaway Lake, Lincoln, Mt. Tahoma, Stadium and Wilson.
  • Sumner High School: Opted up to 4A and remains a member of the South Puget Sound League (SPSL). Other SPSL members include Bethel, Graham-Kapowsin, Emerald Ridge, Rogers, Puyallup, Curtis, Bellarmine, Olympia and South Kitsap.
