Sumner-Bonney Lake School District named a National Board Accomplished District

One of 81 accomplished districts nationwide

Sumner-Bonney Lake School District (SBLSD) has been named a National Board Accomplished District by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). The National Board Accomplished Districts program recognizes school districts that have worked hard to promote student learning through accomplished teaching.

This year nationwide, the National Board Accomplished Districts program is honoring 81 school districts in which at least 20 percent of its teachers have achieved National Board Certification, encouraging teachers to be their best and effectively driving student learning.  Districtwide 98 teachers have earned certification through this rigorous program.

SBLSD has supported teachers for decades in achieving their National Board Certification, which is considered the highest professional credential a teacher can obtain.

The district recognizes the value of the National Board process as an opportunity to offer high-quality job-embedded professional learning. As such, a district facilitator and small facilitation support group is offered for candidates. The District also supports teachers in attending WEA's Jump Start orientation program and Home Stretch seminar. In addition, SBLSD provides $475 for candidates to use for fee support and a sub day for the assessment day.

National Board Certified Teachers and District Facilitators will be recognized by the School Board at the annual District Winter Social on Jan. 15 at the Central Administration Office.
