Student Safety on SBLSD Devices
At the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, your child’s safety is our top priority, both in the physical and digital world. As a K-12 district, we are committed to providing a safe and responsible online learning environment. We adhere strictly to the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), a federal law that requires schools and libraries to implement measures to protect minors from harmful online content.
This page outlines the multi-layered approach we take to ensure your child’s safety.
Chromebook Usage
Elementary Students (K-5)
Nearly all of our elementary classrooms have a Chromebook charging cart containing up to ~30 devices. Teachers may give students access to Chromebooks for specific class activities or free time. After use, devices are returned to the cart and remain there at all times. Elementary students do not take their Chromebooks home (outside of circumstances involving IEP accommodations or participation in specific programs).
Secondary Students (6-12)
Secondary students are issued a device and charger by their building. These devices are kept by the students at all times and go home with them at the end of the day. Students are held responsible for keeping their device safe and charged. Teachers may expect students to use their devices for digital assignments, research, testing, or free time.
