One of the core values in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is a commitment to early learning and development.  The Early Learning Childcare Centers differ from the Blended Preschool Programs in that: childcare is an early learning program/service that follows federal, state and NAEYC child care regulations including care and education in an all day setting. Sumner-Bonney Lake School District’s Blended Preschool program is a part day program fulfilling the pre-academic and academic needs for preschool age children in a structured setting serving both children placed in the classroom on an Individualized Education Program (IEP), non-tuition, and children participating in the tuition-based program.

Early Learning Programs are offered at various locations across the District:

Tuition Based Preschool Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year opens Feb. 1, 2023, after 9 a.m. Registering is based on space available. Please contact Early Learning Director Pam Stoner at pam_stoner@sumnersd.org.

Child’s age and schedule/location preference will determine which location is best suited for your child. Every effort will be made to place your child in the school location of choice; however, availability is based on criteria and space.

Early Childhood Educational Assistance Program (ECEAP)

ECEAP is a state-funded program for children from low-income families who are age three or four by August 31.  The program is similar to the federally funded Head Start Program.  Children qualify for this program on the basis of the family income.  The program is coordinated and staffed through the Pierce County Human Services Department.

Sumner-Bonney Lake School District provides school space and administrative assistance to ensure services for children in our district who qualify.

Services provided to students who qualify for ECEAP include half-day classroom instruction three days a week, one or two meals per day, and periodic health screening.  Additionally, staff works with families to share information, strategies, activities, and resources for the child.

For information about ECEAP and registration procedures, call Pierce County Human Services at (253) 798-4400 (option #4).
