Safety Task Force
-
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District values the perspective, expertise and input we receive from our community in the best interest of all our schools. This community of staff, students, families and community members provides insights and teamwork to insure our schools are a community effort.
To involve our community, the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District created a Safety Task Force. The task force includes representatives from district staff, students and families, community members, and first responders who are interested in the recommendations of the development of policies and procedures that promote safety in our schools and support departments. The Safety Task Force serves as a recommending unit to the Deputy Superintendent.
Subcommittees of the Safety Task Force focus on specific topics of safety, including:
- Mental/Physical Health
- Tech/Facility Safety
- Crimes of Violence
- Natural Disasters
Our Beliefs: The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District believes that every student deserves the opportunity to attend our schools, to feel safe and to learn – without the fear of harassment, intimidation or bullying – no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status or ability. We are committed to ensuring that our learning environments are a place where everyone, students and staff alike, are welcomed with a sense of belonging and safety.
Our Tasks: The work of this Safety Task Force will involve examining issues relating to providing our students and staff with safe environments, which ensure preparedness for emergency events, as well as assessing and addressing the day to day operations of our schools and departments that promote and maintain safe environments.
Our Timeline: The membership timeline for individuals serving on the Task Force will run from October 2022 through June 2023. Meetings have been scheduled for Oct 20, Jan 19, May 18, and June 8.
Our Work: The District intends for the Safety Task Force to have recommendations to the superintendent by June 2023. Members selected for this group will have the opportunity to reapply for future evolving Safety Advisory Councils that will meet quarterly.
