Student success, as defined by Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, is to prepare every student for post-secondary pathways, careers, and civic engagement. In order for students to be ready for learning, their basic physical, social, and emotional needs must be met. Schools cannot do this work alone. In the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, the workplace, schools, and families will be actively engaged in providing every student with the opportunity to explore and develop the essential skills and character needed to value life-long learning. Students will have the confidence to succeed and the willingness to learn from failure, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, grit, and determination.

Sumner-Bonney Lake School District will prepare career and college ready graduates by combining academic knowledge, workplace readiness skills, and social-emotional abilities. Our students will get exposure to careers, an opportunity for exploration through engaging courses, and experience in workplace readiness through connections with business partners.

Washington State requires all students to have a High School and Beyond Plan to graduate. Students demonstrate workplace readiness skills through their research, exploration, and completion of their plan. Besides support provided in the building by teachers, counselors, and administration, there are many resources available to students to help with this research.

    • Career Cruising is provided to all secondary students.
    • WOIS login information is available in each secondary building.
    • Washington Career Bridge, a resource for Washington career and education planning, is free to students and families.

Our Programs Of Study provide access to CareerOneStop, your source for career exploration, training & jobs, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Through the many resources provided in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, a student has the ability to learn more about their interests, skills, and abilities; how those align with their future plans; and create their personalized High School and Beyond Plan.
