Employment is contingent on a successful background check.
Washington State law requires fingerprinting for all people who have contact with students. In addition, fingerprinting is required for employment for applicants who have not been fingerprinted in OSPI's database in the previous two years and for those who have not been fingerprinted in the State of Washington (fingerprints must check through the Washington State Patrol). OSPI works closely with schools, districts and educational service districts to make sure all K-12 students are safe from harm during the school day. Their collective diligence demands that the background of all new school employees be looked into before joining the K-12 education community.
To expedite hiring, applicants are strongly encouraged to have their background check done as quickly as possible. For more information, visit the Fingerprint Background Check Records page of the OSPI website and scroll to the section for WSP Criminal Records Division.
Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is happy to assist you in the fingerprinting process if you do not wish to use, or are unable to use, the above WSP method for fingerprinting. Appointments are available through the Human Resources Department. They can be reached at (253) 891-6025. Fingerprinting is available by appointment only: Monday – Friday, 9 -10 a.m. and 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. daily.
Please be aware that fingerprinting is done by appointment only. At the time of fingerprinting, it will be necessary for you to provide the following:
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- Payment to OSPI in the amount of $45.25 (SBLSD does not charge for this service. We simply collect OSPI’s fee via cash, Visa, or Mastercard and submit processing).
If you choose to be fingerprinted elsewhere, return the completed Fingerprint Verification Form to the Human Resources Office. You may not begin your conditional employment with the District until you have been given an interim clearance by the Washington State Patrol.
