Adding Endorsements

Multiple endorsements and/or Highly Qualified Subject Areas enhance your opportunity for certificated employment options. To add an endorsement to your Washington teaching certificate, either apply online via OSPI’s electronic certification (e-cert) or download the application. Either option can be utilized via OSPI’s teacher certification website.
There are three ways to add an endorsement to your Washington teaching certificate. Each process is explained in greater detail with links and downloadable or printable applications on the teacher certificate website shown below.

  1. Work with a college or university offering an in-state program for adding endorsements. For a list of available programs, visit the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) website.
  2. Apply for the endorsement using your National Board Certificate as appropriate for comparable Washington endorsement areas. OSPI’s endorsement application website has the list of NBPTS Exemptions.
  3. If you have at least 90 days of experience teaching in the area you are currently endorsed, you can follow one of two pathways. Pathways 1 and 2 involve passing a WEST-E test in the desired endorsement that is compatible with an endorsement you already have. This link will take you to the endorsement pathways chart.
