Accommodations and Modifications
Accommodations and modifications are types of adaptations that are made to the environment, curriculum, instruction, or assessment practices for students with disabilities to be successful learners and to actively participate with other students in the general education classrooms and in school-wide activities.
Accommodations – Key Points
- Do not substantially change the instructional level, content, or performance criteria (i.e., grade level standards)
- Provide a student with equal access to learning
- Ensures equal opportunity to show what they know
Examples:
- Provide multiple means of Engagement
- Provide multiple means of Representation
- Provide multiple means of Action & Expression
- Adjust timing/scheduling
Modifications – Key Points
- Changes the instructional level, content, or performance criteria (i.e., grade level standards)
- Provide a student with opportunities to meaningfully participate in the classroom along with other students
