Advanced Programs
Advanced Placement: BLHS
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District offers an Advanced Placement Program at Bonney Lake High School, giving students the opportunity to take high-rigor, college-level courses where they can earn college credit or place out of lower-level college courses in high school.

International Baccalaureate: SHS
The International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme is offered at Sumner High School and available to 11th and 12th graders. The IB Programme is a rigorous college preparatory programme designed to challenge academically focused students to be the very best scholars, thinkers and humanitarians that they can be. The mission of the IB: The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The comprehensive International Baccalaureate Program challenges students with rigorous academic work and will incorporate all of the core academic courses and elective options. Sumner High School students may take 1-5 IB courses as Course Candidates or they may take 6 IB courses, testing in all 6 in order to pursue the IB Diploma. In addition to their 6 IB courses, Full-Diploma Candidates take a once-per week Theory of Knowledge seminar, undertake a year of independent research that results in a 4,000-word research paper, and commit to 150 hours of Creativity, Activity and Service.
Preparation for the Diploma Programme varies, but students are encouraged to take honors level courses in preparation for the Diploma Programme courses they wish to pursue. Additionally, while some graduation requirements may be waived so that students may pursue the IB Diploma, families are advised that a full credit of Fine Art is required for college admission.
Due to the caliber of the program, many colleges & universities offer up to a full year of college credit for students who earn the prestigious IB Diploma. As institutions have individual polices, it is important to check with prospective schools to determine credits they offer for the IB Diploma.
