Students take on first case in new Biomedical Science class

Students in Bonney Lake High School's new Principles of Biomedical Science class stepped into a fictional crime scene on Monday as part of a hands-on classroom investigation.

This semester, students will explore the roles of biomedical examiners, forensic technicians, histologists and other health science professionals. Through this engaging unit, they’ll develop skills in microscopy, DNA analysis using gel electrophoresis and dissection techniques.

Taught by BLHS teacher Kristi Martinez, the course provides a strong foundation for students interested in medical, research and health science careers. It also prepares them for advanced courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biotechnology and Sports Medicine, in addition to UW in the High School classes Addiction and the Brain and Medical Science I/Global Health.

Collaboration, critical thinking and scientific communication are at the heart of this exciting new learning opportunity!
