SHS teacher surprised with award for community impact

Some very special guests from Western Governors University, KING 5 Evening and the Sumner Community Food Bank visited Sumner High School this week to present the WGU Elevate Award to teacher and coach Casey Adcox in recognition of his extraordinary leadership during the school's annual winter Food Bowl, which shattered all previous records.

The WGU Elevate Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to building strong communities and changing lives for the better. Mr. Adcox's guidance helped empower his students to take the lead in collecting nearly 36,000 pounds of food and raising approximately $30,000 to donate to the Sumner Community Food Bank to combat food insecurity in the South Sound region. Congratulations, Mr. Adcox!

Stay tuned in to King 5 Evening during Staff Appreciation Week the first week of May to see the full surprise.
