SHS’ Austin Ferencz selected as state Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Sumner High School football player Austin Ferencz, who was selected as a WIAA Athlete of the Week for week 1.
Austin kicked the game-winning field goal in an overtime victory over two-time defending 4A state champions Lake Stevens at the Sept. 6 game. Ferencz is also Sumner’s ASB president and carries a cumulative GPA of 3.868.
Each week, the WIAA and Gesa Credit Union recognize WIAA student-athletes for outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities. Selections are based on nominations.
