National Spotlight: FCCLA students win big in Orlando

Congratulations to our Bonney Lake High School and Sumner High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students who competed at the FCCLA National Conference in Orlando this week, gathering with 10,000 students across the nation. 

SBLSD students scored among the top projects in the nation in the areas of Food Art, Financial Math, Child Development, and more. They also participated in STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) and were recognized for proficiency and achievement in group and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation.

From Bonney Lake High School, four students attended and all of them made it to at least the top 3 in the nation. Congratulations to:

  • Emmy, 1st place in Food Art Culinary 
  • Krista, 3rd place in Food Art Culinary and 2nd place in the Nutrition and Wellness for Life Challenge Knowledge Test
  • Jayla, 1st place in Child Development Challenge Knowledge Test
  • Chanel, 3rd place in Career Investigation

BLHS students also did a FCCLA Showcase presentation of their nationally-recognized project called “We are in the Driver's Seat!,” which focused on decreasing distracted driving.

From Sumner High School, great job to all 25 students who competed and showed their skills. Congratulations to:

  • Colbey, 3rd place in the Challenge Test in Financial Math
  • Colby, Kara, Fiona, Sara, Campbell, and Kennedy: 1st place in Parliamentary Procedure
  • Viola, 1st place in Personal Finance
  • Daniel, 2nd place in Leadership
  • Sophia and Sofia, 2nd place in Event Management

Congrats to all of our students who competed at the conference and a big shout-out to the educators who encouraged and supported them along the way, including Tricia Littlefield and Kahale Ahina from Bonney Lake High School, and Janine Sather and Rachel Aszklar from Sumner High School.
