Coaches of the Year
Each year we recognize SBLSD Coaches of the Year for the work they do to support student success on our school sports teams. Coaches and advisors are nominated and selected by their peers, who vote in each of the following categories for those who they feel were most deserving of the honor. Congratulations to the following coaches and advisors who received the most votes.
High School Female Coach of the Year (tie)
-
Lacey Bailey, SBLSD Special Olympics Basketball and Track: Lacey is the district's coordinator for Special Olympics, in addition to coaching our athletes in both basketball and track. She has demonstrated compassion, patience, skill and expertise.
-
Kim Peters, Head Girls Basketball, Bonney Lake HS: Kim has led the Panthers to three consecutive state appearances, won the league this year and beat Lincoln HS for the first time, not once but three times. Under her coaching and leadership, three players received all-league honors.
High School Male Coach of the Year
-
Alex Stevenson, Boys Basketball, Bonney Lake HS: Alex was a pillar of BLHS for years. As a player, he led the team to the playoffs and was the all-time assist and winningest player. He coached both JV and varsity at the same time. His impact on the community, students and school is unmatched.
Middle School Female Coach of the Year
-
Tammy Mitchell, Head Girls Basketball and Volleyball, Mountain View MS: Tammy took on two head coaching roles. More than 100 girls tried out for volleyball and she did a great job in both roles!
Middle School Male Coach of the Year
- Phil Wallen, Head Baseball, Head Boys Soccer, Head Boys Basketball, Head Cross Country, Sumner MS: There is nobody who works harder than Phil Wallen, and he legitimately does it for the sheer joy of coaching. Even when the seasons ended, he started a volleyball/pickleball club.
