Plans, design take shape for new middle school in Tehaleh

Plans, design take shape for new middle school in Tehaleh

After months of meetings, workshops, school tours and input from a 16-person advisory committee, the educational specifications for the new middle school in Tehaleh bond project are complete and approved by the school board.

Called “Ed Specs,” the 99-page document for the new middle school identifies and describes space requirements that will guide decision-making in the design, planning and construction processes. It helps ensure that decisions made during design and construction are based on shared goals and what students and staff need most.

The Ed Specs describe what classrooms and learning spaces should look like, such as size, location, furniture and technology. In April, the committee toured Timberline Middle School in the Lake Washington School District, drawing inspiration from a similar woodland setting with features maximizing natural light and surrounding views.

The district will bid for construction in winter 2026 with anticipated completion in winter 2029. Stay up-to-date with all construction progress at sumnerbonneylakebuilds.org.
