Water Quality

School Drinking Water Program

The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is committed to maintaining safe drinking water in our schools. In accordance with state law and in partnership with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), the district has begun routinely testing our drinking water for lead in schools built before 2016. This testing helps us identify any fixtures that may need repair or replacement.

To help reduce children’s overall exposure to lead in the environment, the DOH partners with school districts statewide to collect and analyze water samples, offer guidance on remediation, and support communication regarding the health effects of lead exposure.

School district requirements
To address concerns about lead in drinking water, school districts have several key responsibilities. Under Chapter 28A.210.410 RCW, schools built, or with plumbing fully replaced, before 2016 are required to:

  • Sample and test drinking water for lead
  • Take action if any drinking water outlets exceed 5 parts per billion (ppb)
  • Communicate findings with families, staff and the community

School Reports

Results in school reports represent sampling conducted by the Washington State Department of Health or a certified contractor. Per RCW 28A.210.410 sampling and testing protocols, samples were collected as first-draw. Schools requiring water quality testing (built before 2016) are listed below. As the district receives the test reports, they will be linked.
