The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is bringing together families, students, staff, partners and community members to develop a new strategic plan guided by a revised vision, mission and core values. We’re looking for individuals to participate in this important planning initiative.

Valuing all voices throughout our District, we’re using a progressive, inclusive process where stakeholders can share their ideas and provide input in multiple ways prior to completion of the new strategic plan and School Board adoption, which is set for this summer.

Development of new strategic plan nearing completion

After nearly a dozen meetings since February with various sub-groups of the large planning committee, we’re closer to completing our new strategic plan, which will guide the District and its stakeholders in a clear and common direction for the next several years.

Keeping student learning at the core, more than 100 planning committee members have spent many hours collectively:

  • Analyzing student data: Review data and interpret trends in student learning, growth and achievement; identify highest-priority areas of strengths and concerns
  • Engaging in critical conversations: Discuss causes of disparities in academics, discipline and attendance; identify strategies and professional practices for continuous improvement
  • Sharing opinions: Based on data, set strategic priorities, goals and measures for student success
  • Discussing graduate profile: Identify academic, personal and interpersonal competencies and key qualities of what a SBLSD graduate needs to succeed in college, career and life

If there is anything you think we should consider as we develop our new strategic plan, please let us know using this online form.

We very much thank our volunteer committee members for devoting their time to this important work. We’ll continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Progress, action on development of new strategic plan

The process to develop our District’s next strategic plan is well underway! We’ve completed several meetings, retreats and focus groups with various stakeholders who are invested in this monthslong process, which will result in a clear and common direction to achieve student success.

Relying on the alignment and consensus of diverse voices, the planning process keeps student learning at the core. So far, members of the school board, superintendent’s cabinet and Equity Advisory Council have met virtually to review data, share priorities and engage in meaningful conversations.

Here’s an overview of just some strategic planning actions:

  • Discovered and discussed key qualities of a graduate
  • Reviewed and analyzed equity data; discussed solutions to educational equity disparities
  • Conducted student focus groups (elementary, middle, high, English Learner); analyzed, discussed results

Next month, the entire 150-member Strategic Plan Committee will meet as one group to further develop this critical roadmap to success, which will include a new mission, vision and values. Stay tuned as we keep you updated on our progress and offer ways all of our families and community can offer input.
