More than 600 people came together as a community at Bonney Lake High School on April 26, 2025 to celebrate the amazing cultures that make us the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. Check out this video recap.
Guests learned about different cultures at interactive booths, explored beautiful artwork, and sampled international foods including Borscht, a soup made with beets common in Ukraine, and arroz con leche, a rice pudding from Central America. Shout out to our Bonney Lake High School Culinary students for preparing and serving the dishes. Find the full list of dishes and recipes on our website.
Performers showcased various dances, including a Native American Powwow Dance; a Filipino Tinikling Dance by Sumner High School Asian American & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Club; Bharatanatyam, a South Indian Classical Dance; Baile by Sumner High School Latino Student Union; a Traditional Mongolian Dance; a Chamorro Song by Izumi T.; Jingle Rhythms, a Classical Indian Dance; a Traditional Tibetan Dance, a Samoan Slap Dance (SHS AAPI Club); and a Taekwondo demonstration by K&K Taekwondo.
Impact Award winners were also announced. This award recognizes an individual, group or organization that has demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment and contributions to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in our district. Congratulations to:

More than 300 people celebrated the rich culture of our Sumner-Bonney Lake community on Saturday at the Community Cultural Celebration.
Guests sampled various foods, including Spam musubi, a popular snack in Hawaii, and fry bread, made fresh by members of the Native American Education Program.
There was singing, dancing, poetry, and more performed by students and community members. Check out this video highlighting the event for a glimpse of various performances, including a Samoan dance by members of the Sumner High School Asian American Pacific Islanders Club, Ukrainian songs performed by members of the Salo and Panasyuk families, and a traditional Mongolian dance by Tehaleh Heights Elementary students Elizabeth and Yesu Sodbileg.
