Naming Schools and Facilities
As an integral part of the community, the district recognizes its schools and facilities play a role in promoting and celebrating community and neighborhood identity.
As such, the district will seek whenever practical and appropriate, to name schools and facilities in a manner recognizing the locations broadest community. If such community name is already taken, the district will then seek names reflecting the surrounding neighborhood, geographical traits, or historical attributes and/or events of the area.
On rare occasions and for the most special circumstances, the district may name a facility or school after a person who has attained national or local prominence in the fields of education, arts and sciences, politics, military achievements and statesmanship.
When deemed appropriate, for an amount and length of time approved by the school board, a facility or smaller portion thereof, may be named after a corporate, family or organizational sponsorship, provided the entity represents an image acceptable for the educational setting.
The superintendent, or designee, shall establish a procedure that will engage the community, staff, and students in an effort to generate a list of names for the board to consider.
