Energy Management and Conservation
The Resource Conservation Management Plan places a strong emphasis on implementing long-term, sustainable practices to reduce the consumption of natural resources. A successful Resource Conservation Management Plan relies on the active participation of all members within the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. Each individual is encouraged to not only efficiently use energy but also to actively conserve it. By decreasing the district's reliance on natural resources, more funds can be directed toward supporting student learning and excellence. Additionally, conservation efforts play a crucial role in minimizing negative impacts on our environment.
Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that their rooms or spaces are properly shut down at the end of each day and before extended breaks. This includes closing windows, doors, blinds, and drapes, as well as completing a shutdown checklist.
The district maintenance personnel will be responsible for the efficient operation of all mechanical systems and run times of all HVAC, hot water, and lighting equipment.
The Maintenance & Operations department is responsible for ensuring that HVAC systems operate in the most economical and efficient way possible. The mechanical systems should operate for the minimum amount of time required to provide the approved climate for a specific area and activity.
Maintenance & Operations staff shall partner with the local utilities and other agencies to reduce the use of resources in the operations and maintenance of schools and to maximize utility grants, rebates, and incentives.
The Maintenance & Operations department will provide support for each building’s energy conservation efforts by monitoring and enforcing energy and resource conservation management measures under adopted policies and procedures.
Designated Maintenance & Operations staff will be responsible for tracking energy consumption, alerts, trend data, and energy benchmarking.
The custodians will report water leaks, electrical and mechanical problems, and all out-of-the-ordinary changes in heating and cooling to district maintenance. The custodians will also provide staff and students with assistance for recycling. The Custodians will use district-approved green cleaning products, which will reduce waste and promote a healthier workplace and environment for learning.
