Reporting Improper Governmental Action (Whistleblower Protection)

The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District encourages the reporting, consistent with the district’s procedures, of improper governmental actions by any district officers or employees and will protect employees against retaliatory employment actions for reporting improper governmental actions when the reports are made in compliance with this policy and related procedure.

The District will not retaliate against employees who report such information about improper governmental action, when the reports are made in good faith and in compliance with this policy and the procedures which follow.

District officers, administrators, supervisors, and employees are prohibited from taking retaliatory action against employees who make good faith reports pursuant to the procedures of this policy.

"Improper governmental action" does not include personnel actions including but not limited to employee grievances, complaints, appointments, promotions, transfers, assignments, reassignments, reinstatements, restorations, reemployments, performance evaluations, reductions in pay, dismissals, suspensions, demotions, violations of the local government collective bargaining and civil service laws, alleged labor agreement violations, reprimands, or any action that may be taken under chapter RCW 42.41.020 (1)(b).
