STEM Fair and District Art Show

  • STEM Fair and Art Show Families and community members are invited to this free, all-district event showcasing student science projects and artwork. Hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities will be available for all ages at this annual event, held in conjunction with the District Art Show.

The Art Show celebrates the arts in Sumner and Bonney Lake schools with pieces of student work in various media including watercolor, oil, charcoal, colored pencil, mixed media and ceramics on exhibit. This year, the show will include digital photographs by middle and high school students.

STEM Fairs give students the opportunity to model the work of professional research scientists.  Students who develop science projects learn or improve their skills in:

    • scientific method
    • experimentation
    • logical thinking
    • problem-solving
    • writing
    • public speaking
    • advanced library research

The District STEM Fair represents first, second, and third place winners from each grade level at every school, along with two honorable mention entries.  Students will present projects to science fair judges, with the top projects moving on to a regional competition in March.

    PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER HANDS-ON EXHIBITS

    Physics on Wheels

It’s not magic; it’s physics! Physics On Wheels will generate excitement for electricity, resonate interest in sound waves, use lenses to enlighten and more!  This show pops with exciting and amazing demonstrations! Explore the properties of a mystery liquid (liquid nitrogen) and be shocked and amazed by a Van de Graff generator. Focus on physics as lids mysteriously pop off cans and hairdos become electrified!

    Space Odyssey

Space Odyssey launches you on an amazing celestial journey. Explore the universe in the inflatable planetariums or investigate the phases of the moon, the spectra of gases or the properties of light in your classroom.  Help our astronaut-in-training prepare for a trip to the moon! This show takes off with a mind-blowing demonstration about balloons in the vacuum of space. Contemplate the real size of the moon, investigate astronomy tools like spectroscopes and telescopes and cheer for your team in a race between a student and flashlight.
