Seeking Advisory Council Members for 2021-22 school year

  • SBLSD is currently accepting applications from current working professionals who are interested in advising the school district in the area of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Career Pathways. CTE Program Specific Advisory Committee in these areas:

    • Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
    • Arts, A/V Technology and Communications
    • Business and Marketing
    • Health Sciences
    • Hospitality and Tourism
    • Human Services and Education
    • Information Technology
    • Skilled Trades and Technical Sciences
    • STEM

    Program Specific Advisory Councils (PSAC) provides direction and guidance to administrators and teachers for a specific Career and Technical Education program.

    •  Provide information to update, modify, expand, and improve the quality of CTE programs. 
    • Support and strengthen the partnerships between business, labor, the community, and education. 
    • Make recommendations that will strengthen and expand the CTE curriculum, and provide assistance in implementing these recommendations. 
    • Identify and validate academic and occupational competencies, determining priorities, and review and evaluate programs.
    • Communicate long-term goals and objectives of the CTE programs to students, parents, employers, and the community.   

    Program Specific Advisory Councils usually meet for one or two hours per quarter in the late afternoon or evening; after school and when industry partners are available. 

    PSAC members also engage in additional activities such as serving as guest speakers in classrooms, participating in mock interviews, hosting job shadows, attending student recruitment events, helping students prepare for competitions, and more!  

    In addition, we are looking for General Advisory Council Members who are currently working and have expertise in one of the following areas:

    • Healthcare
    • STEM 

    The General Advisory Council (GAC) provides direction and guidance to administrators and teachers for all career pathways offered by the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. General Advisory Committee members:

    • Provide information to update, modify, expand, and improve the quality of programs and access to career pathways.
    • Support and strengthen the partnerships between business, labor, the community, and education
    • Make recommendations that will strengthen career pathways
    • Identify and validate academic and occupational competencies, determining priorities, and review and evaluate programs to support career pathways
    • Serve as ambassadors for career pathways initiatives

    GAC Commitments

    • Participate in quarterly Zoom GAC Meetings - 1.5 hours over the lunch hour during the workweek with some independent pre-work
    • Attend a yearly GAC retreat - 6 hours
    • Most GAC members also attend meetings for a Program-Specific Advisory Council - 1 or 2 hours per quarter usually on a weekday evening

    GAC members may elect to engage in additional activities such as serving as guest speakers in classrooms, participating on the interview committee for Career Readiness Cords, hosting job shadows, supporting student recruitment events, helping students prepare for competitions, and more!
