General Advisory Council Overview

  • Wanna Cupcake provided in-class instruction on piping frosting.The General Advisory Council (GAC) provides direction and guidance to administrators and teachers for the entire Career and Technical Education program offered by the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. General Advisory Committee members:

    • Provide information to update, modify, expand, and improve the quality of programs.
    • Support and strengthen the partnerships between business, labor, the community, and education.
    • Make recommendations that will strengthen and expand the CTE curriculum, and provide assistance in implementing these recommendations.
    • Identify and validate academic and occupational competencies, determining priorities, and review and evaluate programs.
    • Communicate long-term goals and objectives of the CTE programs to students, parents, employers, and the community.

    GAC members may elect to engage in additional activities such as guest speaker in CTE classrooms, participating on the selection committee for Career Readiness Cord, hosting job shadows, student recruitment events, helping students prepare for competitions, conducting mock interviews, and more.

    This group will meet quarterly via Zoom. Members will receive a calendar invitation with links to Zoom and meeting materials to review prior to the meeting. Materials we also be posted on the website.

    GAC Members Attend
    • GAC Quarterly Zoom Meetings - 1 hour
    • GAC Yearly Retreat - In person (Once social distancing requirements allow)
    • Program Specific Advisory Committee Meetings - 1.5 - 2 hours, 3-4 times per year
