March 26, 2019 Meeting
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District’s Sumner High School Project Review Task Force met for its introductory meeting on Tuesday, March 26th. The Task Force was convened to provide advice to the District on how to proceed with modernizing and expanding Sumner High School in light of current state and local circumstances. At the meeting, the Superintendent recognized the legacy of the significant connection between Sumner High School and the community and the importance of evaluating the project in the context of the entire campus to continue that legacy for future generations. The Task Force was introduced to the project, was provided background on the goals of the 2016 Bond measure, and learned about changed circumstances since the Bond passage and project constraints.
Hainline & Associates, an experienced construction management firm in educational facilities, engaged by the District to assist the Task Force to develop a path forward for the project and the Sumner High School campus, provided the Task Force with an outline of how they will work iteratively with the Task Force to develop, evaluate and narrow options for the path forward. The Task Force members provided Hainline with a list of questions and information desired to inform their work. The list included items such as the condition of the current buildings, clarification on the project budget, the need to increase classroom capacity for programs, the facilities and uses on the campus, and many more.
