Becoming a ParaEducator
Paraprofessionals play a critical role in student success. These men and women come alongside students and teachers to provide instructional support in many ways in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District.
The Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA) Law mandates that all paraeducators who are performing instructional duties must meet specific requirements.
All paraeducators in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District are required to meet NCLB paraeducator requirements:
a. Completed two years of study at an instituion of higher education, orb. Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree, orc. Take the ParaPro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) within the first 30 days of hire.
- Paraeducators must currently have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent.
