Are You Moving
As we plan for the 2012-13 school year, it is important that we have accurate enrollment information. If you are planning to move or anticipate leaving the area, we would appreciate having this information. Please call the office at 253.891.4750 to let us know if your children will NOT be at Emerald Hills next year.
Volunteer Application Now Online
The Sumner School District has a new online volunteer application process. All volunteers are encouraged to complete the online application before April 1. The application is linked from our school Web page by clicking on Volunteer Information.
The process should take approximately twenty minutes. To apply as a volunteer, please complete the following steps:
- Fill out the online application; please be sure to complete your profile and checklist.
- Complete the items in the checklist, including the mandatory disclosure. A State Patrol background check is conducted on all volunteer applicants.
- Once approved, all volunteers must annually resubmit an application to volunteer.
If you need help scanning documents to upload or access to a computer, please call Human Resources at 253.891.6025, or stop by the school office for assistance. Thanks so much for your willingness to serve the students of the Sumner School District.
Lakeridge Parent Night
Lakeridge Middle School counselors will travel to Emerald Hills to deliver registration materials. Families will have the opportunity to review the materials and make decisions regarding 6th grade courses. Counselors will return to Emerald Hills to pick up the registration materials.
On Tuesday, May 22, Lakeridge will host their 5th grade Parent Night. This special time is for families to receive information about middle school. The time for this event has not been set. A letter from Lakeridge Middle School will be sent home with your child.
In August, students will be invited to Lakeridge to pick up their schedules and tour the school.

Kindergarten Registration
All children enrolling in kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year must be five years old by August 31, 2012. When registering a child for school, families should bring: proof of child’s birth date (birth or hospital certificate, passport); immunization information and child’s health history; and names and phone numbers of parents, physician and emergency contact when the parent/guardian cannot be reached.
Families should contact their neighborhood school for registration information, or download a packet from the District Web site at www.sumnersd.org. Completed registration forms should be returned to the school.
Library Books
As we approach the end of the school year, please make sure your child returns their overdue books to our library.
Ask your child if they have received an overdue notice and if the book is at home, please help them locate it and return it to the library.
Lost and found
Our lost and found is overflowing with coats and sweatshirts. If your child is missing a clothing item, please have them look through the lost and found box located outside the gym doors.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are on sale for $15.00. Order forms are going home and extras are available in the office if needed.
Warm Weather Attire
As the weather continues to improve, we would like to take this opportunity to remind families about our school dress code.
Shorts are fine, please make sure they are "finger-tip" length. All shirts should have a sleeve and must cover the midriff area. Shoes should be sturdy enough to allow students to play safely at recess. On P.E. days, our Lakers should be wearing shoes that can lace (athletic shoes would be best).
