Welcome!
The Sumner School Board welcomes members of the public to its meetings and encourages input. Time is scheduled for audience comment at the start of the meeting.

Board Meeting Agenda
Meetings are open to the public, except when the Board convenes into executive session. State law restricts executive session topics to personnel matters, legal, collective bargaining and real estate issues. The Board always votes in public and prior to beginning a closed executive session the president will announce the reason for the session, estimated length of the session and whether the Board will take action in public after the executive session.

• Regular meetings begin with approval of previous meeting minutes and action on consent items, which include personnel decisions, out of state travel and other routine business. The Board celebrates staff and student accomplishments as an agenda item entitled recognition.
• The Board will then hear special reports and presentations. Informational reports and updates to the Board are presented by staff and generally not actionable.
• After the presentations, the Board hears audience comments and then has time to make their own comments as well as hear superintendent comments.
• The next part of the meeting, unfinished business, is devoted to voting on motions and resolutions introduced by the Board, administration or the Superintendent. Most of these motions will have been introduced at previous meetings as new business items.
• One of the last agenda items of the meeting is for the introduction of new business, generally requiring board action. Meetings are concluded with announcements of upcoming meetings and other informational items.

Audience Comments
Visitors who wish to address the Board should use the sign-up sheet provided. Comments from the public are taken under Board advisement and may or may not receive action at a future meeting. Topics including charges or complaints against employees, employment or dismissal of personnel, acquisition of real estate, lawyer-client relationships, and parameters for negotiations should not be discussed in audience comments. Public testimony is most effective when addressed to specific agenda items or matters of general concern. Other information, questions or problems can usually be addressed by district staff.

Meeting Dates 2011-12

The Board meets at least one Wednesday each month. All meetings usually are scheduled at 6 p.m. in the Central Administration Office Board Room at 1202 Wood Avenue in Sumner.

Regular Board Meetings: 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Regular Board meetings are for general board business items.

Study Sessions: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Study Sessions are for longer reports on specific topics/schedule as needed.
