Elementary Battle of the Books Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students. A battle is a game, like the College Bowl, in which student teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the reading list. School teams compete and then advance to the District competition. Battle of the Books 2013 What Is The Battle of the Books? Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers. What Is The "Battle?" A typical "Battle" is a contest, like the College Bowl, in which students' teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the book list. School teams compete and then advance to the District competition. District Final TBD. Battle of the Books 2013 Good sportsmanship must be displayed at all times. Students must form teams of four or less.  Each team may want to name an alternate in case of absence. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students may be on the same team. Team registration requires a final team roster, team name, and signed permission slip for each member. Each team must be present at the designated time and place for the elimination round and a playoff round. The announcer will read each question twice. Team captains will simultaneously display their answers to the audience when the music stops. Teams may not challenge the answers and the judge’s decision will be final. Each team has one opportunity to ask a clarifying question during the round.  A round will consist of 25 questions based on character, plot, and setting.  Tie breaking questions will be based on themes, author, and main idea.
